Dogs love the wilderness, and if your dog spends too much time cooped up in a small apartment or a way too small backyard, taking time to get them out onto the trail as often as possible is something that every dog owner should attempt to do. Whether you are planning an intense weeklong backpacking trip with your dog or simply going for an hour stroll through your local state park hiking trails, there are a few essential things you need to know to make sure that your hiking trip with your dog goes smoothly and memorably. Below, we offer the top six dog hiking tips to make sure that both you and your best friend have the time of your lives.
Let’s picture this. You and your furry buddy are back from the whole afternoon running around, playing hide and seek, throwing and catching balls and chasing squirrels. He is so tired and as soon as both of you get down to the living room; he lays his body on the warm bed by the fireplace. Suddenly, you raise your head and notice his legs twitching. "He must see something in his dream," you wonder. But he is wide awake now but continues to scratch. That is when you freak out and wonder what is going on. Well, that scenario is a signal for a thorough check on your dog's coat for fleas and ticks. Don't worry just yet because these little nuisances are ordinary and with some measures, you can keep things under control....
Meet Riley, the sweetest fuzzy pup and best polar bear cub impersonator in all of Chicago. With assistance from her equally friendly kitty counterpart, Chunk, they make an unstoppable force of cuddles and cuteness. Riley loves taking easy walks through sunny parks and always welcomes some good pets (Chunk likes getting in on this part too). Riley’s relaxed attitude will make even the most anxious want to slow down and join her on a ray-filled stroll or simply just kick back for some pets
Meet Jacie, guaranteed to melt your heart if you're lucky enough to run into this cutie. After choosing which of her favorite toys to take out, she's ready to hit the streets and make anyone that passes her smile and swoon with her strut and love for anyone that falls in love with her. When she isn't out on the town, Jacie is always thrilled to be pampered with pets, laying out to soak up some sun rays, and is sweet enough to give you a kiss just for saying, "Hello." For this and so many other reasons, Jacie takes Pet of the Month for June!
Meet Cashew, the King of the South Loop who has been part of the Royal family since 2010! Cashew is one of the sweetest, most gentle pups we have ever had the pleasure of looking after. His favorite pastimes include long slow walks around the neighborhood, sniffing up all the exciting smells of the day, and getting his daily dose of pets and belly rubs. Cashew's personality is so sweet and will surely make anyone he meets quickly fall in love. For this and so many other reason Cashew takes Pet of The Month for May! :)
Cesar is one of the most energetic pups at Majestic Paws and that’s the reason our walkers love him. Even though he loves his walks, Cesar would much rather spend his time playing fetch with our walkers in the yard. Normally our visits with Cesar consist of 25 minutes of constant fetch, and even though he’s panting the whole time, we get the feeling that he could go a lot longer chasing after his favorite ball. For this reason, and his irresistibly cute smiley face, Cesar is our King of the Month for April 2017.

Being a parent is never easy. You have to raise your kids well and also provide for their needs at the same time. There are instances when you will have a hard time dealing with their tantrums or in teaching them important lessons. It is great if you have a companion in raising them. Whether you believe it or not, dogs are perfect in helping raise your kids. They might not understand your children, but they are of help in many ways.
And the Pet of The Month for March goes to Zeus. Zeus is such a cool dude, he loves walks around the neighborhood and chasing after busy squirrels. As soon as one of our awesome walkers pick him up he pulls all the way to his favorite lunch spot, @luckyclub for a tasty treat. Zeus can be very stubborn, especially when it comes to getting second treats. Often he will lay down next to the treat jar and refuse to move unless he is rewarded with second treats. We love Zeus here at @majesticpaws and we are so honored to be able to look after Zeus on a daily basis! <3 #chicago #luckyclub #lunch #treats #petofthemonth #march #lion #fabulous #king #dogwalkers #smile #dogsofinstagram #kingsofinstagram #labmix #oldpup <3
Meet Siggy, the pup for the month of February! With Valentine's Day coming up we wanted to chose a pup that radiates love all the time. Siggy is a handsome black mix who is around four years old. He is one of the sweetest dogs we've had the pleasure of walking. Everytime anyone from our team stops by to take him out for a stroll, he gets up and excitedly wiggles over, ready to get geared up. Most of his walks consist of sniffing, smiles and the making new friends. It isn't a surprise that Siggy is popular around the neighborhood. His charisma makes it difficult to not fall in love with him. Our team is very happy to have gotten to know such a loving creature. For these traits and more, we've chosen Siggy as our pet of the month for February! ❤
Lola is a total diva and a feisty one at that. In her time with Majestic Paws this little queen has had both male and female walkers and always makes the men work harder to win her affection. Once she warms up though she turns into a total sweetie, and one of our walkers favorites. Lola knows what she wants and exactly how to get it. Some days a long stroll around the neighborhood is on the menu and other days its a shorter walk with some playtime and pets at the end, but whatever she is in the mood for she makes sure to let the walkers know and oblige. Lola is one of our most photogenic dogs and always puts her best face forward when the camera comes out. For all these reasons and more, Lola is Majestic Paws first pet of the month for 2017!
Whether he's wigglin' & waggin' at the door or pathetically-cute and in bed when we arrive, Luigi always loves his pets and walks at our daily visits. Though not much ground is covered with his slow n' steady pace, his wobble warrants plenty of pedestrian pets. His walks are about quality over quantity as the sniffs are thoroughly sniffed and the humans are thoroughly watched. His cute and lovable personality are why our walkers can't get enough of him, and what makes Luigi Majestic Paws pet of the month!
Sadie is an adorable French Bulldog that has been with Majestic Paws for going on a year. She is super friendly with all people and loves saying hi to every dog she comes across on her walks. Sadie’s walker Jess normally bookends her days by seeing Sadie at the beginning and end of her route, so she knows her days will always get off to a great start and leave her happy at the end. When she’s not out walking, Sadie loves playing with her toys and spending time in her little home within her home. Congratulations to Sadie for being named Majestic Paws Queen of the Month!
Lea and Artemis are two of the newer kitties at Majestic Paws but they have already made a strong impression on our sitters. Lea is super friendly and playful, and seems to have an imaginary friend that she plays tag with as she will randomly dart across the unit at any moment. She’s also a sucker for cuddles and makes sure she gets her share of hugs and pets at every appointment J
Artemis is just as playful as Lea. His favorite game seems to be follow the leader and he normally stays glued to our sitter’s hip from the moment we arrive. While Lea gets her fix of hugs and pets, Artemis is not to be left out and makes sure he gets his share of belly rubs. Together, Lea and Artemis are this month’s Royal Couple of Majestic Paws!
Our pets treat us to companionship, loyalty, and just all-around good feelings every single day. Next time you have some leftover, cooked pumpkin, indulge your love of cooking and your love of pooch, by make a healthy dog treat (kitty owners, keep reading, pumpkin is good for cats, too). Note: canned pumpkin is fine – pie filling is not, just use plain old cooked pumpkin, unsweetened & un-spiced.
Jackson was one of the very first dogs with Majestic Paws, and is still a regular 8 years later! Over the years Jackson has mellowed out considerably, but is always ready to make friends with whoever wants to play. He loves long walks, playing with his toys, and chewing his bones, but his favorite game to play is fetch. Jackson has great ears and can always hear his walker coming, and is always waiting anxiously at the door for his playtime with a huge smile :)
